Today's the day....I am participating in my 3rd Read-a-thon and my first in April. I have big dreams each and every time, but honestly I've not been very successful. I've become distracted, some not my own fault as the first time I was at a work weekend away for my husband. I've let myself feel overwhelmed, and honestly given up. I'm also distracted by twitter, facebook and the internet in general. So maybe this year will be different, and maybe not...ha ha.
My Plan: Flexibility!! I have print, audio and ebooks for variety. I have big books, little books, YA books, short stories, fiction, non-fiction thrillers and I think that will help too.
I have food...food ready to eat and food I can prepare, which is one place the audiobooks can help. I can also listen if I decide to do some housework or laundry or take a walk....it's already hot here in Florida so maybe in the evening.
Start time...I appreciate the set start times, but honestly 8am eastern time won't work for me...other will be sleeping at midnight....I'll be awake and likely reading. Most people read as much as they can....so my sleep time may be split between the start and the end of the 24 hour Read-a-thon.
Updates: This coincides with my internet problem....so I'll be updating in one post...Likely every 2-3 hours. So if you wonder how it's going...come on by. I'll update twitter then too...and do a little cheer-leading along the way!!
Here are my preliminary stacks...but as most bibliophiles I've got 200+ more choices if these don't meet my desires!
Audio books
The paper book stack
So it' is now 10:50 am, and I'm getting started!! Listening to audio, I've showered and now it's time for some breakfast.
Happy reading all!!
1:30 Update: Pages Read: 76 Audio listened: One hour 16 minutes. Ok, I just noticed, its the same for minutes and pages....so weird!! I keep feeling my eyes getting heavy...ugh. What can I say I'm a napper.
I started some laundry so I could get up and keep awake. Hang in there peeps!!
6:30pm Update: Pages Read: 217, finished arc of THE BEAR by Claire Cameron Audio listening time: Two hours one minute. I'm listening to FROG MUSIC by Emma Donoghue. I perked up and didn't take a nap. I did two loads of laundry. I had a big breakfast at @11:30 and had some snacks today of wheat thins and cheese and almonds. I've been distracted by family...love them! Kevin took our daughter out for dinner, and they are bringing me home at burger. I'm hungry. So while I've only finished one book, I feel good. I'm going to start a new book in a bit. Either A MONSTER CALLS by Patrick Ness, or WE WERE LIARS by E. Lockhart. Both have me anxious to read!! I've encouraged others on twitter a little, but I haven't done any challenges. For me it was more about reading.
Carry on Readers....and enjoy!
2:15am Update: Fading fast zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Pages Read- 447, completed 2 books, started a 3rd...barely. Audio Listening time: 3 hours....so weird that it was an even number. I still have 4 hours left in FROG MUSIC. I have some driving time tomorrow...so that's 2 hours off that one!
I may read a tiny bit more, but I'm putting this post to bed for tonight. Happy reading...or sweet dreams...both so good.

You are like the most amazing reader on Earth if you can get through your stack! Keep reading!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are doing a great job, Anita! I have yet to participate in a readathon. I always worry if I'd be able to juggle everything that makes it up--but I think if I focused on the reading, I would probably not go crazy. :-)
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work!
