I try my best not to buy anything on impulse, but occasionally I'll find a sale, or I'll buy a pair of shoes or a handbag or something for the house...just because.
When it comes to books I am not lacking...we know the problems. Advance copies for review, books we win from other blogs or that friends send us. Then there are the books that I really want to read and no one sent me. I don't consider these true impulse buys...they are more planned. Just this week I ordered a new release, THE HEADMASTER'S WIFE, because two bloggers I admire read it and raved...so that one I bought. I also plan book purchases around author events or book festivals. This has been a pricey book month for me.
Where I get into the impulse thing is more like the Kindle or Nook daily deals, or the email deals I get from publishers letting me know about reduced price e books. Twitter is filled with tempting book deals too. So here in full admission of my problem are the recent impulse buys...but hey I got good deals!
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb
Sycamore Row by John Grisham
The Goldfinch by Donna Tarte
Must Love Dogs, New Leash on Life by Claire Cook
A Natural Woman by Carole King
The Prince of Tides by Pat Conroy
Letters From Home by Kristina McMorris
While yes each of these books was on a long wish list I added them to my e library because they were a great price. Not sure when I'll read but I felt it was a good time to snag them!
So...tell me....do you have impulse book buying syndrome? Do you budget for and plan your paper or e book purchases?
Twitter and blog reading can be expensive! I can't believe you've never read The Prince of Tides - you are gonna love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty good about not buying physical books unless I'm absolutely lusting after them, but e-book deals are my downfall! I'm immune to Kindle's $1.99 specials, and I've often clicked Twitter links to purchase books I've had my eye on for a while that are suddenly less than $3. Can't help it! But hey, there are worse vices, right? :)
ReplyDeleteThe Rosie Project was such a fun read -- hope you love it, too!
The Prince of Tides is one of my all-time favorites!
ReplyDeleteIt is so so so easy to hit that buy now button on Kindle or Nook! I grabbed Goldfinch as well and ALMOST got I Know This Much is True but I already own the hard copy and have read it. LOL! Guess it's pretty sad when you're buying books you've already read just because they're cheap. ;)
